While family violence is most commonly used by men against their current partner, it can also include former partners and other family members and relationships. Family violence can be experienced by anyone.

This includes intimate partners between people of all genders, parent or step-parent to child, carers who are not family members towards someone with a disability, adult children who abuse their elder parent and kinship or ‘family of choice’ relationships.

The Centre for Non-Violence offers specialist skills, knowledge and support for victim survivors of family violence, including:

  • Crisis response
  • Case management
  • Risk assessment
  • Safety planning
  • Financial support for individuals and families who are escaping or have recently experienced family violence
  • Support to access short-term crisis accommodation and assistance to identify options for longer-term accommodation
  • Adult and children’s therapeutic services
